Before the
weaving begins, I take the finest quality of silk, tencel, rayon, cotton or
wool, depending on the type of garment or accessory I plan on making, and
after the warp is made, the yarns are taken to my dye studio where I proceed
to paint the yarns with dyes. The process takes several days to complete.
Once the dyes are set, the yarns are washed and dried and the loom can then
be set up to weave. I quite often dye the weft yarn as well as the warp.
This process makes each item unique and limited runs of yardage keep the
garments produced, one of a kind.
Once the yardage
is woven and finished, I then use either a commercial pattern or very often
my own design to create the garment. The entire process from dying, weaving
to sewing is done by me. Very often
pieces left over are made into small bags or hats trimmed with fur.
